Adium

Twitter Integration

This project evolved from a desire to devise a method for setting and displaying "offline statuses" for contacts whose normal protocols of choice do not support it. After some planning and consideration it seemed much more fitting to explicitly support Twitter as it's own "protocol" of sorts rather than simple support it under the veil of something else. Twitter's expressed premise is "What are you doing right now?", I felt this fit perfectly with our concept of a status message, and as such it would fit in well with what we are trying to do with Adium. This wiki will serve to outline some of the thought process involved in the development of this project.

As such, this page is a work in progress and I'll fill more of it in as we progress.

Goals & Objectives

The goal of this project is to allow Adium to function as a first-rate Twitter client thus eliminating our users' need to run a separate program. The main objectives are to focus on allowing users to view the statuses of their friends as well as set their own. After these basic features are implemented I would like to add the ability to support more advanced features such as personal replies, etc.

Feature Ideas

  • Ability to set your current Twitter message
  • Ability to see Tweets from your friends
  • Support using multiple accounts simultaneously (accomplished by defining Twitter as it's own account type)
  • Allow sending of personal replies (possibly by means of a message window)
