Since I installed Leopard, Adium can't connect to MSN. Why is that?

Both of these are ultimately the same problem.

MSN takes a long time to connect on Leopard because of changes in how Leopard looks up server names. For some people, this seems to mean that Adium gives up before the response arrives. Even so, we're fairly sure that our behavior is correct; the problem is your ISP's DNS being slow or ignoring the request entirely.

These steps will help you set up OpenDNS as a fallback:

  1. Choose System Preferences from the  menu.
  2. Open the Network pane.
  3. Click on the lock icon to imbue yourself with super-powers. With great power comes great responsibility, so you must first enter an administrator account's username and password to prove that you are a hero and not a villain.
  4. Select the network interface (AirPort, Ethernet, or FireWire) that you're using to connect to the internet.
  5. Click on Advanced.
  6. Click on DNS.
  7. Click the + button on the left.
  8. Type: 208.67.222.222
  9. Click the + button again.
  10. Type: 208.67.220.220
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Apply.

You should then be able to connect to MSN.
