Adium

Installing Adium

Installing Adium is similar to installing most Mac OS X applications.

  1. Download the Adium X disk image. Note that download managers/accelerators may interfere with this.
  2. If an Adium window doesn't open automatically, double click the downloaded file
  3. Drag the Adium application to your Applications folder (Or wherever you'd like to keep it).
  4. "Eject" the Adium disk image, which has an icon of a drive
  5. The Adium disk image will still be present in your download folder (probably on your desktop). You can drag this file to the trash, as it is no longer needed.

To load Adium, locate it in the Applications folder (or whereever you dragged it) and double click.

For further details and answers to problems you may encounter, see HowToUseDiskImages.

Upgrading?

The easiest way to update your copy of Adium is the “Check for Updates” menu item in the Adium menu.

If you'd prefer to upgrade manually (perhaps so you can more easily keep the disk image around), then just follow the steps listed above for installation, and choose to Replace the existing copy of Adium.app when prompted in step 3. Your settings and contacts will not be affected (like well-behaved application, Adium does not store your settings or data inside itself).
