When you hover over a contact in the contact list, you see a tooltip about the contact's status and some additional information. When using Leopard spaces, however, these tooltips appear in all spaces, regardless of whether the contact list is resident in that space or not.
Sidenote: I'm pretty sure that this behavior occurred back in Tiger when using Virtue Desktops, but I always wrote it off to something wonky in VD. But since this behavior also present in Leopard Spaces, it seems like it could be Adium's fault and therefore should be investigated.
This behavior is present in Adium 1.2 (just released this morning/last night; there does not appear to be a new beta yet) on OS X 10.5.1 (all software updates as of 7 Jan 2008).
I have attached some screenshots showing the issue:
- Screenshot showing Adium in space 6 (as shown by the "6" in the top right). The Adium app is active; you can see it listed in the menu bar. Hovering over a contact in the contact list shows the info, as expected.
- Screenshot showing Adium in space 6 (as shown by the "6" in the top right). The Adium app is not active; you can see Finder listed in the menu bar. Hovering over a contact in the contact list shows the info, as expected.
- Screenshot showing Leopard now in space 5 (the Adium contact list is in space 6) with the Finder active. But Adium is still showing the hovering contact info.
(all screenshots intentionally clipped to not show contact screennames)
I would think that these tooltip/contact info hovers should not be shown when you are not in the same space as the Adium contact list.
