What service are you using that the contacts are blocked in? Have you tried unblocking them in the mainline client?

I have the exact same problem.

I'm on a mac, I'm using adium 1.1.3 and I brought up YIM and the users were not blocked.

I have tried to unblock the users in adium but it keeps coming back to "blocked".

This is on YIM.

It seems there might be a bug in the libpurple blocking code: #p1859

Still happens in Adium 1.1.4 :-(

Users are blocked, I unblock them, restart Adium, users blocked again.

PaulHammant, please try the TroubleshootingTips (particular the part about using a fresh set of preferences). Then check your Privacy Settings menu option under the "Adium" menu, and ensure that it's not set to block everyone for that account. Then try unblocking them and restarting Adium. Perhaps the unblocking is not being saved because Adium cannot write to your preferences for some reason or other - with a fresh set of preferences this cannot occur.

If that doesn't work, then we're still waiting on that fix from the libpurple team.

Going to Adium->Privacy Settings shows the cause.

The panel contains lists of the blocked. One that I have blocked (spam bots, pests) and ones that I have not. It looks like many, perhaps all, I have added recently are in the blocked list. Certainly all the people I have added in the last month.

Removing the ones from there, seems to work, except when I restart Adium the list has all those erroneously blocked again.

I'll try the other workarounds to see what happens.

I thought I'd hit gold editing Library/Application\ Support/Adium\ 2.0/Users/Default/libpurple/blist.xml as it has a list of blocked people.

1. Exit Adium 2. Edit ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adium\ 2.0/Users/Default/libpurple/blist.xml 3. Remove blocked entries that shouldn't be 4. save 5. restart Adium

:-(

The blocked entries are still there. Moreover, they are back in that blist.xml file.

So, it absolutely must be that the blocked list is stored on the YIM server and Adium is not updating the list after changes are made locally. That confirms that this definitely is a libpurple issue. There are a couple options here:

  1. Use another Yahoo client and unblock them - make sure to also delete that blocked list again, then open Adium back up... the other client should have synchronized properly with the YIM server, and all should be well.
  2. Wait for an updated version of libpurple that fixes this problem.

I would like to suggest leaving at least a couple of the users blocked so that we can test it properly with updated versions of libpurple.

I have just cranked up YahooMessenger, and gone into the similar privacy settings, those Adium-blocked people are not blocked.

Am confused.
