Speech rate and pitch appear to be 0 when Adium opens

Description

I have a "Speak the event aloud" on the "Message received" event, so that incoming messages are spoken. However, When I open Adium on my machine and receive a message from another user, the sound is low and slow as if the pitch and rate settings are at 0. If I go into the preferences and open the "Speak event aloud" event and click OK then the speech will be normal again. This happens every time I restart the application and is solved by re-saving the event each time.

(In [13429]) * Fixed up some float/int desparities which were likely causing #672. Fixed #672.

  • Speak Text action can now include %n (user name), %a (alias), %m (message), and %t (time), allowing the user much more control over what gets spoken and when. Closes #142
  • Sounds from sound sets are now in separate submenus in the Play Sound action, making the menu much more usable particularly when many .AdiumSoundsets are installed. Fixes #762

Had fun while waiting on dinner to cook before I go back to studying :)

After upgrading to Adium X 0.85 today, my "Speak Event" from when a contact connects is very slow. I'm not sure if it is just the speed that is slow, or the pitch as well. All voices are effected and I can't get it to improve by changing from the default speed and pitch. Note: I also upgraded to Quicktime 7.03 & iTunes 6 today, so perhaps that enters the equation. But, general text to speech features in the OS don't seem to be effected.

(In [13766]) Hooked up the sliders and checkboxes in the speak event action, which were disconnected in 0.85 accidentally. Fixes #672

Forgive me if I'm not following the flow here; I'm not used to Trac. At any rate, I went straight from 0.84 to 0.86 and it's not fixed in the 0.86 build. It presented itself as soon as I launched after updating and persists on all relaunches.

Please provide a screenshot of the configurate sheet for your Speak Event action for which you're observing this slowed speech.

Works fine here; please reopen with more information if you are still seeing a problem.

Running 0.87, this still occurs for me. Every time Adium is started, the voice is very slow. Upon opening the event properties (i.e. double clicking the event), it immediately speeds up to the normal speed. It stays fine until Adium is shut down and restarted.

There has to be something odd here; this ticket has bounced like crazy. I have had this problem for a considerable number of versions over several patches of OS X

11/26/2006 10:08:52 PM changed by backonmac

I have recently seen the same problem with Adium 0.89.1

I have OS X 10.4.8, iMac Intel Core 2 Duo.

As long as I open the Events preferences and leave Adium running, the speech is fine. But if I close Adium, the speech slows on the next launch of Adium. I will try to attach a couple of screenshots of my settings.

This is one of the coolest features of Adium, so it'd be great to get it fixed! :-)

Thanks, Jason

Nope, it's been working great for me. Glad that it's fixed. Thanks for checking!
