Yahoo IM messages being dropped.

Description

Several of us in Operations at Yahoo have noticed that over the past few months more and more messages are getting dropped. The thing we have in common is that we all run Mac OSX and using the latest Adium (however we've noticed this in the last view versions). Someone using a windows machine and native Yahoo messenger don't see the messages dropped, but in fact they can send any of us a message and maybe 5% of those messages never arrive. This is obviously a big problem. We have confirmed that it seems to be common among all our mac machines all running Adium x.84 - x.86. Also we notice the problem when sending messages from adium client running on mac to another adium client running on mac (about a 5% message drop rate). So it's my feeling that there is a problem confirming delivery to the adium client and the message simply is dropped.

Please let me know how I might provide more information to help resolve this issue.

Are you seeing the same thing from Gaim clients? We just use their backend..

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with MSN Messenger messages. I'm running the latest version of Adium (0.86) on OS X. Virtually every time I have an IM conversation with someone, messages are dropped resulting in great confusion!

I am having the same problem with Adium on Yahoo. I have long runningn conversations with a couple of people during the day. When I'm on my windows notebook I have no problems. On my Mac G5 I will occasionally lose messages during the day. Does not seem to be any rhyme or reason.

I'm having the same problem, and am completely unable to communicate with anyone on yahoo mobile (they don't get my messages sent from my G5, and I'm not getting theirs).

Can anyone provide some information as to how to possibly fix this problem?

Many thanks!

  • milestone set to Adium X 1.0.

Do you also have this same problem with windows/linux machines running Gaim 1.5.x?

Yahoo Mobile is a separate issue (#2764).

We need an answer to Tick's question above.

Oh, and Adium Debug Window output (available if building from source, or I can post you a debug build if you need one) as you send a message which is dropped might potentially help.

  • cc changed from scurry505@yahoo-inc.com to scurry505@yahoo-inc.com, scurry505@yahoo.com.

Adding a cc in the hopes it will generate an email so that the submitter will look and respond.

  • severity changed from major to normal.

Also, if you can provide us with any official documentation on the protocol, it would be appreciated.

Can you ask someone outside of Storage operations if they are seeing this problem? I'm going to bring down the severity until we have a better idea of what is going on.

Hello, sorry about not updating this ticket as I wasn't getting any email updates. Many to the Kevin for bringing it to my attention. I don't have a linux/windows machine to test this on.
