adding the ability for adium to support msn personal messages would be cool and an alert (on contact list) when users update their msn spaces <-- just a couple features from msn messenger 7 for windows.

What are MSN personal messages? and MSN spaces are like blogs right?

05/16/2005 04:06:55 AM changed by anonymous

They're like an expanded display name. They appear alongside the actual name. You can have either current music or an actual message on them.

MSN spaces are essentially blogs, yes, MSN spaces + MSN Messenger 7.0 Allows you to blog STRAIGHT from MSN.

05/16/2005 03:08:45 PM changed by anonymous

yes personal messages would be awesome! alot of people on my contact list have something on their personal message and it would be nice if adium (if only initially) lets us at least be able to view them.

msn spaces are blogs. on msn7, there's an icon that appears besides contacts that have just recently updated their spaces so people can check out new entries.

  • priority changed from normal to low.

This depends on implementation in gaim.

i would like this too, it sounds awesome to have.

Well, when this is implemented in gaim, I would recommend sending Adium status/away messages as the MSN personal message. (Finally, MSN gets away messages. Why don't they call them that?) This will be an easy and elegant way of keeping MSN buddies informed of status, without a bunch of MSN nick munging.

hopefully it is implemented very soon. im looking forward to this b/c i dont like having to use msn7 on windows just to see my contacts' personal messages. maybe at first just the ability to view other people's messages then eventually be able to create our own.

The Personal message feature is implemented in Mercury ;) But Mercury is not so nice as Adium.

Pleaseeeee!! You should consider this, it's a very cool feature... maybe for a nearer release?

Adium is great!

Just for future reference: begging for features makes us annoyed. It does not make them get done any faster. Especially when they're libgaim issues.

Go complain to the libgaim guys.

Here's the official libgaim ticket requesting the addition of this feature. Much like the rest of you, I am really looking forward to this!

They say in the ticket that they're hoping it'll be completed by the 2.0.0 release, which is currently in beta and expected to be released any day now. :)

Personal messages requires the implementation of MSNP11. The Gaim team haven't even implemented MSNP10. Last I heard, there was an effort to implement MSNP10 but none of the fruits of that effort have seen the Gaim 2 releases. Also notice that the referred ticket was closed 16 January?

I know I sound cynical here, but don't hold your breath I guess.

i know someone who was working on a patch, and it seems to be working mostly, but he needs help ( i think he cant work on it anymore)

If someone was working for a patch, can he attach it here or put it somewhere? I may be able to help out.

yeah, not having this feature sucks big time, but adium still kicks ass!

personal messages rock!

Mercury, amsn, and msn:mac all have this feature now.  I've switched back to msn:mac for the time being.   I know you're waiting for gaim... but maybe you should reconsider that, I mean if everyone else has been able to...

10/11/2006 04:39:25 PM changed by boredzo

  • field_haspatch changed.

There's nothing to reconsider. Libgaim is how we have MSN support. To implement this feature ahead of libgaim having it would require writing a complete implementation of the protocol ourselves; this feature is not that important.

It will happen when libgaim supports it, and no sooner, because it cannot possibly happen any sooner.

I looked for a ticket for this with the libgaim team, and the ticket was closed long ago. Is there any new info regarding this feature?

It was implemented in libgaim long ago it is just no adiumx dev wants to get there hands on it. Even though we mentioned how MSN is the largest im network userbase on Adium.

I suppose no dev uses MSN much and they dont like it either. Someone mention MSN is hard to code for and wired protocol.

You are 100% wrong on every point. It is not implemented in libgaim.

Nah, he's not wrong on *every* point. He's just wrong on every point *except* MSN being a pain. ;)

I'll point that that in addition to being Adium's lead developer, Evan is also a developer on Gaim. So he knows what he's talking about.
