Yep this is known, I believe Felipe mentioned this is the remaining case when he fixed this from occurring with contacts that are online.

jas: I did?

I'm not sure what I said about which issue.

I don't know what "send now" is but it seems to me some sort of offline messaging thing. Since offline messaging doesn't have write support (yet), I guess the right thing to do here would be to disable "send now" when the contact is offline?

in #10237:

It seems this happens when you try to send a message to a user that has mobile (pager) capabilities. I've fixed this so that it only happens when the user is not online.

And yes, when you try to message a contact that is offline for a protocol that doesn't yet support offline messaging, Adium will prompt the user as to how they would like to proceed. You can cancel, choose to send the message at a later date when you're both online or send it immediately (and see what happens). With MSNp9 I thought choosing send now to contacts that appear offline would still send the message, though perhaps not.

I have created and accepted #10695 in which I will make this a non-issue in Adium 1.3, since msn-pecan doesn't have offline message support and MSN is too broken as a protocol to do the right thing to an invisible contact :)
